Technology talk steals the show at Blue Line Expo 2018

Over 50 vendors set up shop to show off the latest in technology, services and products from the law enforcement, corrections and security industries. This included body worn cameras, police pistols, Narcan Kits, robbery detection systems, law enforcement vehicles and so much more.

On the conference side of things, the OPP’s Colin Giles stole the show with his talk on unmanned aerial systems and the role they play in collision reconstruction as well as search and rescue endeavours.

The audience also lined up to ask Supt. Chris Gilpin questions after her presentation on the legalization of marijuana and how the OPP is preparing drug recognition experts.

Cost, battery life and changes to officer workflow were all topics brought up during the enlightening Body Worn Camera panel, featuring various law enforcement officers from agencies who have already incorporated the equipment or are in the process of incorporating it.

Who needs robots when you can have robocops? Peter Sloly put this thought to the crowd during his Smart Policing in Smart Cities session. He said in 2009 not a single hand went up when a law enforcement audience was asked if they thought they would be policing in the internet. Today, he said the question is: How will we be policing in the human body, in outer space in the future?
