Toronto Police Service’s 56th Annual Police Excellence Awards

May 11, 2023, Toronto, Ont. – The 56th Annual Police Excellence Awards are taking place this evening, Thursday, May 11, 2023, in Toronto.
The event will begin with presentations to each of the Police Excellence Awards officer winners, followed by the Civilian Excellence Award and the Police Officer of the Year Award later in the evening. Remarks will be made by Lisa Kostakis, member of the Toronto Police Services Board, Jon Reid, President of the Toronto Police Association, and Chief of Police Myron Demkiw.
The Police Excellence Awards recognize and pay tribute to devoted, brave and compassionate members of the Toronto Police Service who are committed to making Toronto one of the safest and most livable cities in the world. Every Toronto Police Service member who has received a major commendation is considered for the awards. For the Police Excellence Awards, each officer or group of officers are selected based on the criteria of bravery, humanitarianism, superior investigative work and outstanding police skills. The criteria for the Civilian Excellence Awards include demonstrated diligence, dedication, initiative and/or leadership, which has improved the administration or operation of the Service and/or positively impacted the community.
