Toronto police officer charged in sexual assault investigation

May 5, 2023, Mississauga, Ont. – The Director of the Special Investigations Unit, Joseph Martino, has reasonable grounds to believe that a Toronto Police Service officer committed criminal offences against a woman on May 19, 2022. Director Martino has caused charges to be laid against the officer.

The police service notified the SIU of the incident on June 29, 2022, and the Unit launched an investigation.

As a result of the SIU investigation, Constable Ramdial Lokenath is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of breach of trust, contrary to sections 271 and 122 of the Criminal Code, respectively.

Cst Lokenath is required to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice at 10 Armoury Street in Toronto on May 31, 2023.

As the matter is before the courts, and in consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will not provide further comment on the investigation.
