Recruit officers, experienced officers and civilians join SPS

Apr. 22, 2024, Surrey, B.C. – Surrey Police Service (SPS) has welcomed 19 new employees this month, bringing the growing agency to 428 staff (367 officers and 61 civilians). This latest group includes new recruit officers, experienced officers, and civilian employees.

SPS’s newest experienced officers were sworn in during a special ceremony on April 22, which also officially welcomed two new civilian employees. The recruit class will be sworn in next week before they head off to the Justice Institute of BC (JIBC) to begin their police training.

The experienced officers, coming from both RCMP and municipal police agencies, and the civilian employees will immediately begin to support policing operations and/or the continued growth and development of the SPS.

The recruits will graduate from the JIBC Police Academy in 2025 at which time they will join the frontline of policing in Surrey. This group comes from diverse ethnic backgrounds and brings Punjabi, Portuguese, and Vietnamese language skills, along with impressive volunteer and work experiences.

“I would like to welcome all of our new Surrey Police Service employees. We are building something special here at SPS and I am thrilled that these individuals have chosen to join us at such an exciting time in our history,” said Chief Constable Norm Lipinski. “There will be many more opportunities for police and civilian positions at SPS as the policing transition continues to move forward.”
