July 14, 2023  By The Canadian Press

July 14, 2023, Sydney, N.S. – Nova Scotia’s police watchdog agency has charged a Cape Breton Regional Police officer with one count of assault causing bodily harm.

The independent Serious Incident Response Team issued a statement today saying it was contacted on May 7 by the police force, which was investigating an alleged assault committed by an off-duty officer in the Sydney area.

No details were released about what happened.

The team then started its own investigation, which determined a charge was warranted.
