May 26, 2023, Woodbridge, Ont. – Last night, Blue Line had the opportunity and honour to attend The Haven’s inaugural gala in support of public safety personnel (PSP) mental health. The gala took place at the Chateau le Jardin in Woodbridge, Ont., and had over 140 guests in attendance.

The Haven is a mental health service provider that approaches mental health wellness with the understanding of the impact of organizational stressors. They understand that organizational stressors, such as short staffing, shift work, healthy processing of operational pieces, organizational culture, leadership consistency, are directly related to mental wellness. Their goal is to change what mental health resources look like for PSP and their families.

The gala was opened by the Toronto Police Colour Party, the singing of O Canada, and remarks from The Haven’s founder and executive director, Michelle Vincent. Michelle is also a regular contributor of Blue Line Magazine.

Throughout the evening, a silent auction and an exotic race car experience raffle took place alongside a three-course dinner and speeches from members of The Haven’ s board and other first responders. Hanna Gadol, a military veteran, spoke of her mental health journey and what her interactions with the police and crisis negotiators looked like after her service. She expressed her deep gratitude for the work The Haven is doing in the mental health space.
