$1.865 million granted to support policing initiatives in Saskatchewan

Nov. 15, 2023, Saskatchewan – The Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety has recently granted three municipalities money through the Municipal Police Grants program to support policing initiatives.

The City of Moose Jaw has been granted $458,000 to fund four existing police service positions. Saskatchewan Government Insurance is also providing $360,000 for two positions as part of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan initiative. This brings the total amount of the Moose Jaw Police Service Funding Agreement to $818,000 for six police positions in 2023-24.

The funding for Moose Jaw supports the continued delivery of targeted policing programs such as the Police and Crisis Team (PACT), which sees police officers teamed with mental health workers to provide an integrated and coordinated response to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis in the community.

The City of Weyburn has been granted $229,000 to fund two existing police positions in the community. Saskatchewan Government Insurance is also providing $180,000 for one position as part of the CTSS initiative. This brings the total amount of the Weyburn Police Service Funding Agreement to $409,000 for three police positions in 2023-24.

The Municipal Police Grants program supports enhanced community policing throughout the city and works to ensure a safer community. The funding for Weyburn supports positions within the Serious Organized Crime Program and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan (CTSS).

The City of Estevan has been granted $458,000 to fund four existing police positions in the community. Saskatchewan Government Insurance is also providing $180,000 for one position as part of the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan initiative. This brings the total amount of the Estevan Police Service Funding Agreement to $638,000 for five police positions in 2023-24.
