WINNIPEG — A man from Winnipeg is being accused of lying about being a police diver.

September 15, 2017  By The Canadian Press

RCMP say they began an investigation in March into a man believed to be falsely representing himself as a Mountie who was part of the force’s dive team.

Officers found someone had been using social media to communicate with a number of police and scuba-diver groups.

They say on social media the person often portrayed himself as an experienced RCMP member and engaged in discussions with unsuspecting victims.

Thomas David Hanaway, who is 59, has been charged with personating a peace officer and failing to comply with a probation order.
