Dwayne Lakusta sworn in as chief of police of the Grande Prairie Police Service

Aug. 29, 2023, Grande Prairie, Alta. – Jackie Clayton, Mayor of the City of Grande Prairie, has released a statement on the swearing in of Dwayne Lakusta as the chief of police for the city’s new municipal police service.

“On behalf of the City of Grande Prairie, I am pleased to welcome Chief Dwayne Lakusta as the inaugural Chief of Police for the Grande Prairie Police Service (GPPS). Today marks a milestone occasion as we entrust the oversight of the Grande Prairie Police Service to an individual of outstanding experience and expertise.

“With 28 years in law enforcement, Chief Lakusta has demonstrated exemplary skills in relationship building, strategic planning and collaborative initiatives that promote community wellbeing. His leadership will be crucial as he oversees a team of dedicated employees, prioritizing public safety, accountability, and effective community relations.

“The decision by the Grande PrairiePolice Commission to appoint Chief Lakusta is a testament to their confidence in his capability to elevate Grande Prairie’s community culture, structure and strategic priorities. His leadership will be instrumental in setting the standards for the GPPS and building the necessary infrastructure for its success.
