Two Toronto police officers hurt in knife attack while checking on missing person

Toronto police say two of their officers were injured after a man came at them with a knife this morning.

Interim Police Chief James Ramer says the officers went to a rooming house in the city’s northwest to investigate a report of a missing person.

He says the officers were in the building’s common area around 11:15 a.m. when one of the other occupants came out with a knife and “immediately attacked.”

Ramer says the man was hit with a stun gun and restrained, then taken to hospital.

He says one of the officers, a sergeant, sustained serious slash wounds but his condition is not considered life-threatening. The other officer suffered minor injuries.

Police say they person who was reported missing has not been found at this time.
