Traffic stop leads to shootout between police and suspects in Saskatchewan
ONION LAKE, Sask. — Two men have been charged after RCMP exchanged gunfire with a trio of suspects during a traffic stop on a Saskatchewan reserve.

Mounties say the shootout happened over the weekend on the Onion Lake First Nation along the Alberta boundary north of Lloydminster.
They say they tried to stop a pickup truck believed to be stolen when one of the suspects inside opened fire and the truck took off.
The truck got stuck in a nearby slough and police and the suspects exchanges shots before the suspects fled on foot.
Two of the suspects were arrested a short time later without incident and a third was arrested the next day.
No one was hurt in the shootout and one of the suspects was released without charges.
Two other suspects are facing several charges including assault with a weapon and assaulting a police officer.
The RCMP say they’ve called in Regina police to conduct the external investigation because an officer fired during the arrest.
