Toronto Police officer charged with attempt to obstruct justice

Apr. 26, 2024, Toronto, Ont. – A Toronto Police officer has been arrested and charged by the Toronto Police Service.
It is alleged that in December 2020, an officer began an inappropriate personal relationship with a member of the public during the course of his duties, and in June 2023, the officer provided investigators with false, misleading or inaccurate information regarding a criminal investigation involving the individual he was having a personal relationship with
On April 23, 2024, Cst. Werton Maciel-Sampaio, 39, was charged with:
- Two counts of Attempt to Obstruct Justice, C.C. 139(2)
- Perjury, C.C. 131(1)
He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, on Friday, June 7.
Cst. Werton Maciel-Sampaio has five years of service and is suspended with pay as per the Police Services Act.
