Oct. 18, 2021, Halifax, N.S. – Halifax Regional Police are investigating the weekend theft of an Every Child Matters flag from in front of their downtown headquarters.

Police say in a news release today that the flag was stolen early Saturday.

They say an employee later noticed the flag was missing and that the flagpole had been damaged.

The orange flags are intended to foster awareness of the residential school experience of Indigenous peoples.

Police say video footage shows five suspects – four males and a female – walking south on Gottingen Street.

The footage shows one of the male suspects walking up to the flagpole and tearing the flag away before fleeing the scene on foot.
