Emond Publishing and TNT Inc. Consulting Services, which provides various resources and training for policing and security professionals, have launched their “Cannabis Awareness Series.”

The series features three videos:

  • Cannabis Awareness for the Workplace,
  • Cannabis Use in the Workplace, and
  • Conducting Internal Interviews.

Cannabis Awareness for the Workplace delivers an overview of cannabis, from basic recognition and terminology to the laws that control cannabis use in Canada. This 19-minute video, featuring Det. John Margetson, examines various aspects of cannabis use, including recognizing a variety of cannabis forms and products; common health effects of cannabis use; a detailed breakdown of provisions contained in Canada’s Cannabis Act; Ontario’s Cannabis Control Act, 2017; the Smoke-Free Ontario Act, 2017; and other cannabis-related laws.

Margetson is a 27-year veteran of the Toronto Police. He is currently serving as a supervisor with the Organized Crime Enforcement-Drug Squad.

Cannabis Use in the Workplace: A Manager’s Guide to the New Legislation outlines the challenges of cannabis use and abuse in the working environment. In this 19-minute video, professor Judy Hermann—who is also the co-ordinator for the Community and Justice Services Program at Centennial College in Toronto—walks the audience through how the new cannabis legislation impacts the workplace, detailing relevant terminology surrounding substance use and abuse, the Ontario Human Rights Code and accommodation policies, managing an employee with substance use or abuse problem, and the managerial rights and responsibilities.

Conducting Internal Interviews: Dealing with Impaired Employees in the Workplace equips supervisors and managers with the knowledge and assessment skills to “tactfully approach difficult situations regarding employee impairment and misconduct.” Featuring Det.-Sgt. Stefan Prentice of the Toronto Police Service Special Investigations Unit Liaison, this 20-minute video examines the importance of strong leadership, with tips to strengthen your leadership at work; workplace risks when dealing with employee impairment; Human Rights Code violations; the internal interview process; awareness tips and documentation; and a hierarchy of concerns, as well as workplace impacts.
