World Class Policing Awards postponed to 2021

July 20, 2020  By Staff

Given the global pandemic, the World Class Policing Awards team regrets to announce the World Class Policing Awards will now be postponed until 2021.

All those who have entered for this year’s awards will have their nominations carried forward to next year.

The inaugural 2019 World Class Policing Awards (WCPA) were “a fantastic success,” according to organizers, with nearly 120 entries from 31 U.K. police forces, three national U.K. policing agencies and five overseas forces. Find all the winners here.

This year’s awards were set to be even bigger with more police forces and departments from an even wider selection of countries. However, the pandemic and its continuing restrictions mean the WCPA team have taken the very difficult decision to postpone this year’s event.

“Despite launching the 2020 nominations process and extending the deadline when the pandemic occurred, we have reluctantly conceded that running the event this year will not be possible,” said WCPA founder and Policing Insight Publisher, Bernard Rix. “This is not only due to the social distancing restrictions that would make any ceremony difficult but also recognizing that police forces, our supporters and our commercial partners still find themselves in challenging circumstances and are understandably focusing on other priorities for now.”

The team would like to thank those who have put great effort into the “impressive” nominations that have already been submitted. These will be carried forward.

“We will now look forward to welcoming members of the policing community from across the globe to our 2021 event and we cannot wait to hear how policing has kept our communities safe in the face of the extraordinary challenges of the pandemic, not just the direct policing response, but also in terms of keeping ‘everyday policing’ happening,” the team added. “We already know 2021 is going to be a very special awards ceremony and we encourage the officers, staff, partner agencies and police suppliers everywhere to come forward and share their successes with us in a special evening that recognises the very best of policing.”

The nomination portal will now close on July 24, as publicized, but will reopen in late January 2021.
