Toronto Police Service hosting first-ever Invitational Youth Games
The Toronto Police Service has been named the host organization for the Invitational Youth Games 2019 and Chief Mark Saunders has been named as “Honorary Chair” for the games.

The games will be the first of its kind in the world and are part of the year-long 50th anniversary worldwide celebration of Special Olympics (July 2018-June 2019).
A total of 2,500 participants from around the world will take part in the games from May 14-17, 2019. They will be student athletes, aged 13-21, with and without intellectual disabilities and accompanied by their coaches.
“For decades, law enforcement in Toronto, and around the world, has been an active advocate, fundraiser and supporter of Special Olympics,” said Saunders. “It is with the utmost pride that the Toronto Police Service will host these games and bring their powerful unifying message to life.”
It was the leadership and direction of retired Toronto Police Service Const. Lorne White that helped develop Ontario’s Law Enforcement Torch Run into “one of the most successful programs in the world,” according to TPS, both in fundraising and partnership, between law enforcement and Special Olympics.
