Mar. 3, 2022, Calgary, Alta. – The invasion of Ukraine appears to be having consequences for Calgarians of Russian descent.
Calgary police say in a news release that there have been multiple reports from the public since Tuesday about what is believed to be hate speech and harassment targeting Russian Calgarians on social media.
The service says patrol officers, as well as its hate crimes and extremism team are investigating.
Hate crimes are those motivated by bias, prejudice or hate based on a number of factors such as race, ethnicity and language.
