Ronnie Schaefer of Fort Smith retires after 19 years in bylaw

Ronnie Schaefer, the bylaw officer for the Town of Fort Smith, N.W.T., has retired after 19 years on the job, including three as the animal control officer.
He is also well known for acting as a volunteer “guardian” to the wild flock of endangered whooping cranes who come north to nest each summer on Salt River First Nation reserve land.
