Surrey RCMP piloting new Online Crime Reporting tool

June 18, 2019  By Staff

The Surrey RCMP is launching a new online crime reporting tool to assist residents in reporting select non-emergency crimes. This is part of a pilot project for the B.C. RCMP that also includes detachments in Kelowna, Richmond and Ridge Meadows.

Online Crime Reporting provides an alternate way for citizens to report less serious crimes directly at www.surreyrcmp.ca/report and through the Surrey RCMP mobile app.

Citizens with a valid email address can report crimes, such as theft under $5,000 or a hit-and-run to an unoccupied vehicle or property, that occurred where there is no suspect or witness and follow-up by a police officer is not required.

“Crime reports from the public are an essential part of determining how our policing resources are deployed in the city,” says Supt. Ed Boettcher, Surrey RCMP Operations Officer. “This additional reporting tool will enhance our service delivery to residents of Surrey by making it more convenient to report less serious crimes, while allowing police to focus on emergency calls for service.”
