Quebec’s Airmedic implements new call dispatch system
Airmedic has announced it recently finished implementing a new call dispatch system, Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), at its emergency call centre in Quebec. Comparable to the system used by 911 dispatch centres, this software is a “complete call management and allocation solution.” It has also been “completely adapted to the unique environment of airborne medical evacuations, a first in Quebec,” the company notes.

Adapting the software required a full year of preparation and programming, Airmedic states.
“It is important to know that the role of the nurses who co-ordinate our emergency centre is capital,” explained Sophie Larochelle, executive vice-president of Airmedic. “On duty 24/7, they are at the heart of taking immediate and complete care of our members. Co-ordinating evacuation procedures falls to these teams. They take part in locating injured parties, deploying emergency teams, obtaining support for loved ones present, while co-operating with emergency services and first responders when necessary. Implementing CAD was the tool that Airmedic needed to make us stand out above the crowd in how we benefit the population.”
Employing more than 150 people, Airmedic was established in 2012 and says it is the only company in Quebec operating its own fleet of aircraft exclusively dedicated to emergency medical care and transfers between hospitals, nurses, paramedical ambulance technicians, respiratory therapists, physicians and pilots.
