The author personally interviewed all the officers about their survival during terrorist attacks, hostage situations, mass-shootings and other dangerous encounters. He has thoroughly analysed each case to try to understand why they often jeopardized their own safety and life to protect civilians from eminent threats. All the cases examined in the book received extensive national and international media coverage at the time. The author examines the impacts that coverage had on the officer at the time and during its aftermath.
This book should be an excellent resource for law enforcement personnel, healthcare providers and researchers studying the effects of the often traumatic situations experienced by police. It is also intended to create dialogue about the personal resilience and recovery (or adaptation) process of officers who have experienced multi-faceted trauma and to help develop evidence-based intervention and care strategies and processes.

Konstantinos Papazoglou is a psychology doctoral (PhD) candidate in clinical-forensics and a Vanier Scholar at the University of Toronto.
