Ontario’s police watchdog clears two Toronto police officers of wrongdoing
October 8, 2021 By Canadian Press
Oct. 8, 2021, Toronto, Ont. – Ontario’s police watchdog has cleared two Toronto police officers of wrongdoing in the death of a man who had recently been arrested.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says officers tried to arrest the man in June and he fell to the ground.
It says after he fell, they arrested him under the Mental Health Act and he was taken to hospital, where he later died.
The SIU says the man’s cause of death has not been determined, but there’s no evidence that the officers used excessive force or failed to provide him with care.
