Keeping Canada Safe – A snapshot of the lives of the people keeping Canada safe.

Our world is changing fast. We are becoming all too aware that our personal security, from disaster to crime and harassment and the safety of our children, is not to be taken for granted. Yet most of us know little about the processes and the many thousands of people that keep Canada safe.

Imagine what we might see if we took a snapshot of a day in the lives of the men and women who are Keeping Canada Safe. In the fall of 2016, that’s exactly what we did.

Sixty camera crews descended into Canadian airspace, streets, parks, and homes to capture intimate and important stories in a bold, breathtaking, and dramatic account of what it takes to keep our country secure. Cameras spanned our largest cities and our smallest towns, from British Columbia to Newfoundland, and from the Prairies to the Far North.

The result is Keeping Canada Safe, a high-profile documentary series for CBC that tells the compelling personal stories of the Canadians protecting our country, and uncovers the groundbreaking technology that is constantly evolving to keep the nation secure. It captures the powerful and poignant moments as people seek assistance, work to guard their friends, shelter their neighbours, and protect our way of life.

Stories and locations range from fighting fire emergencies on either coast, to a team of officers preparing for and executing a warrant for an arrest in Kingston; committed citizens working to end gun violence in Halifax to an inside look at the air traffic control tower on Canada’s busiest tarmac; and a First Nations youth’s mission to keep his community’s water clean.
