RCMP adds officers to streets with Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Team
The Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Team (SACRT) is a newly formed team of RCMP officers whose mandate is to target known offenders and reduce crime in Southern Alberta.

The first bust for the team came in February 2018, according to a CBC article, and was made in conjunction with the Calgary Police Service.
SACRT is an intelligence lead unit that will identify those criminals who have the biggest impact on communities and work towards the disruption of their ongoing criminal activity, RCMP states. The unit is committed to “increased inter-agency communication, shared criminal intelligence and a strategic focus on repeat property crime offenders, in keeping with the K Division emphasis on crime reduction strategies.”
The team is part of an $8 million investment from the Government of Alberta to “enable Alberta RCMP to place more employees where they can make the most impact: on the streets and in communities across the province.”
The RCMP will use the investment for their action plan, which adds 39 new officer positions and 40 civilian employees.
“The investment represents additional support for Crime Reduction Units in communities that need it the most, six new intelligence-focused officers, four additional crime analysts and more civilian staff to cut down on paperwork so that officers can focus on investigations, patrols, and engaging with their communities,” stated a RCMP news release.
