Court hears Manitoba Mountie left with severe head wound after shooting
BRANDON, Man. – A bail hearing for one of four men charged after a Manitoba RCMP officer was shot and injured has heard that the Mountie was struck in the back of the head after running the suspects off the road with his cruiser.

A Crown lawyer revealed the details on Monday at the hearing in Brandon for Delaney Houle, who faces charges that include break and enter, theft and aggravated assault.
A judge granted bail to the 23-year-old accused.
The court heard Cpl. Graeme Kingdon forced the suspects off the road after police answered a call on Aug. 29 about a break and enter on a property in the Onanole area near Riding Mountain National Park.
Prosecutor Grant Hughes said Kingdon suffered a fractured skull when he was shot as he approached a truck that he had forced off the road.
He said the officer is in stable condition and has been released from hospital, but still has several shotgun pellets embedded in his head and neck.
Houle is the third accused to apply for bail and the second to receive it. Shane Beaulieu was released earlier this month.
Tommy Beaulieu, who is facing similar charges, had his bail application denied.
The fourth accused, Therae Racette-Beaulieu, remains in custody on many of the same counts, but faces additional charges that include two of attempted murder and possession of property obtained by crime.
Hughes told court that surveillance footage captured four people going through various buildings and trailers on the property, and one of them could be seen carrying a gun.
As police were approaching, they met the suspects’ truck coming down the road. Kingdon pulled in front of the vehicle, forcing it into the ditch where it got stuck.
Three people got out and ran into nearby bushes.
Another officer heard a shot and found Kingdon, bleeding, crouched on the ground. He was asked by the officer if he had been shot and he responded that he wasn’t sure.
Hughes said that’s when police reported hearing a second shot — later determined to be two separate shots fired in quick succession — but didn’t see where it came from.
He said the truck had been reported stolen earlier that evening from Portage la Prairie, and several items that had also been reported stolen were found in the vehicle’s box, including five long guns.
One of the accused was arrested in Neepawa later the same day after a lengthy standoff. The other three were arrested the following morning.
