Better collaboration for investigators, digital forensics examiners thanks to Magnet Forensics and Child Rescue Coalition
Magnet Forensics, a developer of digital investigation software, and Child Rescue Coalition (CRC), a non-profit organization dedicated to combating the sexual exploitation of children, have announced a technology integration that they say will help make it easier for investigators to find and prosecute child predators.
The data integration is centered around Magnet Forensics’ flagship tool, Magnet Axiom, and CRC’s Child Protection System (CPS). Axiom lets digital forensics examiners acquire, analyze and report on digital evidence from smartphones, Cloud services, computers, IoT devices and third-party forensic images. Meanwhile, CPS is a comprehensive system that compiles and curates millions of online child predator records.
Using a streamlined workflow, CPS enables investigators to target suspects based on the type and volume of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) downloaded or shared in their jurisdiction. Once a search warrant is served, the investigator uses Axiom to import the CPS file and process the seized devices. In turn, Axiom can corroborate the peer-to-peer downloading activity, digital identifiers and chat activity included in the CPS file, alongside the evidence from the suspect’s devices.
In addition, Axiom can show connections between that suspect, the CSAM and any other previously unknown suspects or victims. The data for the unknown suspects can then be uploaded to CPS, providing investigative teams across different jurisdictions the opportunity for greater collaboration as they share information on other predators.
“By working together Magnet Forensics and CRC have made it possible for investigators and digital forensics examiners to collaborate more efficiently on child exploitation cases, to help ensure these types of heinous crimes can never go undetected and unpunished,” said Jad Saliba, founder and chief technology officer (CTO) at Magnet Forensics.
The CPS-Axiom integration will be available to Axiom users in the fall of 2018.
