Mar. 10, 2023, St. John’s, Nfld. – Police in Newfoundland say a 16-year-old boy is in hospital with serious injuries after a violent assault by multiple youths at a high school in St. John’s.

Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Const. James Cadigan says police believe weapons were involved and that the victim was targeted.

Cadigan said on Friday that police arrested one person in connection with the assault, but it’s too early to say what charges could be laid or how many people took part.

The injured 16-year-old was allegedly assaulted at 11:40 a.m. Thursday in front of Prince of Wales Collegiate in St. John’s.

Cadigan says that due to the location and timing of the assault, police believe many students may have witnessed the incident.

He is asking community members with any information to contact police or share what they know anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
