Manitoba RCMP say suspect suffers serious injuries in police involved shooting

July 2, 2022, Shamattawa, Man. – RCMP in northern Manitoba say the province’s Independent Investigations Unit has been notified after a shooting involving police left a man with serious injuries.
Police say in a news release that the detachment in Shamattawa, over 700 kilometres northeast of Winnipeg, responded to a report Saturday afternoon about a male walking on a road carrying a gun.
They say officers immediately began patrolling the area, and during their patrols, they heard several gunshots and headed toward them.
The release says they located the 22-year-old suspect outside of a residence, and an interaction occurred with the officers that resulted in shots being fired.
Police say the suspect, who is from the community, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the nursing station.
No officers were injured.
