Isobel Granger of the Ottawa Police promoted to inspector
Staff Sgt. Isobel Granger of the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) has been promoted to the rank of inspector — the first Black female to be promoted to this rank at OPS.

She began her law enforcement journey as the first Black officer to join the “White” ranks of the British South Africa Police in Zimbabwe, which at that time had a rank structure for “Whites” and another for “Blacks.” She moved to Canada to become one of the five first Black female officers to be hired by OPS. Granger was the first Canadian designated to the Justice Rapid Response Roster, a United Nations Women’s Initiative.
She is one of 150 people from around the world who are qualified to investigate war crimes related to sexual gender-based violence at the international level. In 2015 she was appointed as a member of the Order of Merit of Canada.
