DRPS off-duty officer charged

Feb. 3, 2022, Oshawa, Ont. – A Durham Regional Police Service officer faces numerous firearms-related charges after a joint firearms investigation by the Provincial Weapons Enforcement Unit (PWEU) and the Durham Regional Police Service.

On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, the off-duty officer was arrested at his Oshawa residence by members of the DRPS Professional Standards Unit. Investigators seized three prohibited firearms and multiple prohibited devices.

Kenneth BOONE, age 45, of Oshawa has been charged with 13 firearms-related offences including: Careless Storage of a Firearm; Possession of a Prohibited/Restricted Weapon Knowing It’s Possession is Unauthorized x3 and Import a Restricted/Prohibited Device Knowing It’s Possession is Unauthorized.

He was released on an Undertaking.

BOONE has been an officer with DRPS since 2003 and worked in the Traffic Services Branch. He will be assigned to administrative duties.
