For this special bonus episode, Blue Line, The Podcast connects with Toronto Police Service (TPS) Deputy Chief of Police Shawna Coxon to hear more about how TPS is handling the COVID-19 outbreak as well as all the details on her cybercrime journey and her commitment to analytics excellence in policing.

Prior to becoming deputy in 2017, Coxon worked on the Transformational Task Force where she helped to design and begin implementation of the modernization of the service. Her focus on the Task Force was information technology, culture change and training. She also started the Computer Cyber Crime (C3) section, one of many cyber-outcomes from her work as the Team Leader of Operation Reboot. This was a service-wide initiative addressing social media, open source investigative techniques, training, technology procurement and cyber-related threats and opportunities.

A passionate volunteer, Deputy Coxon also has a PhD in Criminal Law and is one of the innovative leaders at TPS spearheading a new public safety Digital Tech Transformation project, named the Analytics Centre of Excellence (ANCOE).

Find out more about the impact the global pandemic is having on TPS, Coxon’s exclusive advice to other cyber units in law enforcement agencies across Canada for policing cybercrime in a pandemic, and how analytics have made quite the difference in this challenging time.
