Bell working on 911 location issues for Apple Watch Series 3

Bell customers with the new Apple Watch Series 3 should be aware that their longitude and latitude location may not be supplied to 911 operators when the device is not paired with their iPhone via Bluetooth, the telecommunications company stated. However, in the event of an emergency, 911 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) will contact Bell Mobility to obtain required longitude and latitude information.

This is a Bell network issue that affects only Apple Watch Series 3 users connected to the Bell Mobility LTE network, Bell explained. Bell says its network team is “working closely with its technology partners to resolve the latitude and longitude issue as soon as possible.”

All other Enhanced 911 (E911) functions are available on the Apple Watch, even when the devices are not paired, including the ability for 911 operators to receive the caller’s telephone number and location to the nearest cell site.
