Feb. 28, 2021 – Lac La Biche RCMP have charged two men, including an Anzac man police accuse of ramming their vehicles, after trying to serve a warrant.
At 1 p.m. on Feb. 21, Lac La Biche RCMP’s Crime Reduction Unit and St. Paul Police Dog Services arrived at a home in Kikino to arrest a man wanted for an armed robbery in Boyle.
As police approached the home, officers say the man drove away in a vehicle with two other people. Police tried deflating the vehicle’s tires close to Range Road 130 near Highway 28 in Smoky Lake. The driver then avoided the deflation device and allegedly rammed a police vehicle.
Police say they chased the vehicle, which rammed a police cruiser a second time. The driver lost control and crashed into a ditch. The three men were arrested, although one was released without charges.
Rory Allan Cardinal, 30, of Lac La Biche was arrested for the outstanding armed robbery warrant.
Damion Troy Quintal, 36, of Anzac is accused of driving during the incident. Police have charged Quintal with 10 offences, including two counts each of assault with a weapon on a police officer and failure to comply with release order. He has also been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle.
Cardinal and Quintal remain in custody. Cardinal is scheduled to appear in Boyle Provincial Court on March 9, while Quintal will appear in Lac La Biche Provincial Court on March 8.
